Book review ~ Eat, Laugh, Talk

Eat, Laugh, Talk! the Family Dinner Playbook, by The Family Dinner Project

Eat, Laugh, Talk! is a "how-to" manual for creating family eating experiences.
Using bright, healthy food-based graphics and short, relatable stories, the authors explore the benefits of family mealtimes, and provide tools to make them happen.

The book is comprehensive in showing opportunities for family meals,. It uses friendly, accessible language to suggest rules to facilitate conversation, and offer solutions to the most common obstacles.

Recipes and suggestions to tempt picky eaters are reinforced by encouraging personal stories. There are multiple options for finding time, and reducing distractions. While some of the ideas should be common knowledge, I also learned some new ideas, and new thinking on the importance of family dinners that I hadn't known before.

I'd recommend this book to any new parents, or parents who struggle to create a regular family mealtime. Eat, Laugh, Talk! will be in bookstores October 1.

The Family Dinner Project is a nonprofit based in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital's Psychiatry Academy, and includes Rhode Islanders among the authors of Eat, Laugh, Talk!
