Historic Rhode Island Buildings ~ Nicholas B. Young House (1887) ~ Providence
I'm participating in the #100DayProject, in which members choose a creative theme and post their creations 100 days in a row.
For Day Three, I chose the Nicholas B. Young House (1887).
At the corner of Manning and Ives Streets, it's an impressive house with lots of Queen Anne detail. Sharp-eyed viewers might glimpse some stained glass on the side of the house, and a bow window over the porch.
The State Survey for Providence describes it as, "A 2½ story, Queen Anne dwelling clad in clap board, shingle and diaper work with a high cross-gable roof and large, elaborate, gable-roof entrance porch," and goes on to say that "Young was a partner in George F. Young & Bros. wholesale-retail cigar company."
I couldn't find any information on Nicholas or George... but I did find an ad from their store on Westminster Street, in the Providence Directory of 1889.
The house has been well-preserved, and boasts seven bedrooms, and some modern kitchen and bath updates. It must have been for sale sometime in the last few years, because there's a YouTube tour from Residential Properties, and a few interior photos on some realty sites.
