1. Tell us about your work.
I have a line of jewelry and small assemblage sculptures made from antique, vintage, unusual, upcycled and salvaged materials.

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business? -
I have a rather dark, sometimes spooky, tribal and punk aesthetic to my work. Hence; "Savage". And almost all of my designs include upcycled or reclaimed materials. hence, "Salvage".

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I've been an artist since I was a kid. I made jewelry and sold it to local craft shops in high school so I wouldn't have to get a boring after school job. I went on to get my BFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute, and have been working as an artist and jeweler ever since.

4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I am heavily inspired by nature. I'm an avid hiker and love to find natural treasures that I can incorporate into my work. I also find great inspiration at flea markets, estate sales, antique shops and dusty attics.

5. What’s your favorite item to create?
At the moment I'm really enjoying working with fossils and large stones. They make fascinating statement jewelry pieces. They make me feel like I'm wearing a bit of a natural history museum!

6. What’s your best seller?
My current best sellers are my African porcupine quill earrings. They are simple and minimal, but are quite long and dramatic. And they create such an interesting story for the wearer.

7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I grew up in RI, but moved away for college. Then spent the next 15 years exploring other parts of New England. My husband and I moved back to RI about 2 years ago. SO enjoying being back!!!

8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
I love being so close to the ocean and to my family down in South County.

9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
Brenton Point in Newport! It's so raw and beautiful there. And a great spot for picnics and rock hounding.

10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
Be true to your personal aesthetic. Make something you would want to wear yourself. If it sells, make it again. If it's fun to make and continues to sell, go with it. Making things over and over, that aren't fun to make, is a total drag! Also, photography is absolutely key if you intend to sell artwork online. You are basically selling a photograph of your work, so it has to be perfect!

11. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
Thanks so much for this opportunity! Please feel free to drop me a line if anyone has any questions about my work, or how to get started with an online craft business. You can reach me through my websites or social media.
