1. Tell us about your work
I have been crocheting since I was 8 years old. My Memere
taught me. I seriously began crocheting with thread about 15 years ago. I love the small hooks and the small thread! I can crochet anywhere and anytime because it is so compact! I love to work with the thread and I fall in love with every piece I make!
2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
The name Hook and Thread Creations came from my hook and thread products! My sister in law actually came up with it when I decided to try selling all these pieces I have made! There are only so many pieces you can give away! This is my hobby and I love to do them so of course I have lots & lots on hand!
3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I am a crafter because of the love of crochet! I consider it a hobby which I love, not a job!
4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I draw my inspiration from my dear deceased Memere. She would do these and I would be in awe of what she could do with her hands!😊
5. What’s your favorite item to create?
I love creating all of my doilies!!
6. What’s your best seller?
My best seller is a oblong doily that looks like a butterfly to some people, but I see pineapples, scallops, and starfish in the design
7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I've lived in Rhode Island all my life.
8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
I love the beaches and knowing I can go from one side of Rhode Island to the other side of it in under one hour!!
9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
Newport!
10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
Be happy, create what you love and never ever be discouraged if people don't seem interested in your talent!!
11. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
I am constantly told that what I do is a lost art, and old person art and everyone has their grandmother's dollies in a old box in the attic. What they don't see or realize is that those doilies are works of art, took time and love to make, and one day will become the trend again!!
I am patiently waiting for the trend to come back!! Meanwhile, I continue to do what I love and take pride in my work!
