1. Tell us about your work.
I am a mixed media artist. I feature artistic scrapbook pages, mini albums, junk journals, tags, cards and altered projects in my shop.
2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
When I first entered the world of scrapbooking and began signing up on different websites in the scrapbooking world I chose the user name Raining. I was a stay at home mom at the time with a 2 year old. Summer is my favorite time of year and this particular year it rained for at least 4 weeks straight. Anyone who is a Rhode Islander knows how short and precious the summer weather is. If you are a beach person like me losing four weeks of beach time to rain is significant. Hence the on line name "Raining" was born. Over the years I became more involved in the mixed media world and designing for companies in that genre and began my "Rainings Artful Life" brand.
3.How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I started out following a kit club scrapbooking company. As I became more involved in this genre I started to design for different manufacturers and kits clubs: Scraps of Darkness and Elegance kit clubs, BoBunny, Heartfelt Creations, Frank Garcia, Cottage Cutz. I also started submitting my work to magazines and have been published in Somerset Memories, Scrapbooking and Beyond and Crafts N Things. I'm now gravitating towards becoming a portrait artist. I love drawing and painting in a variety of mediums such as charcoal, pastels, acrylics and oils.
4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
When you look at the world through the eyes of an artist you find inspiration in everything you see.
5.What’s your favorite item to create?
In the papercrafting area I love creating altered items and mini albums. Currently I've had a great affection for using art dolls in my work.
6. What is your best seller?
My premade scrapbook pages sell out very quickly. They usually sell as soon as put them in the shop.
7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I am a native Rhode Islander. I was born here and while I do travel I have never lived in another state.
8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
I really love almost everything about RI. I live in the southern end of the state in a rural area close to the ocean. I LOVE the beach and spend my entire summer there. I love the landscape of RI and changing seasons. Living in RI gives us easy access to all of New England and we can easily travel to Boston, Newport, Connecticut or Maine in a matter of a few hours. We also have the best food in RI!
9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
Most people who visit love to try out the fabulous food. We have great restaurants in RI. I enjoy showing people Newport, the beaches along the coast and of course Downtown Providence and the waterfires!
10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
Just do you. Everyone else is taken. :)
