1. Tell us about your work
I have an Etsy shop online where I sell my nautical flag prints and invitations. I create most of my work in Adobe Illustrator based on what the customer requests. I love that my customers put the prints I create for them in their home.
2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
Sea and Sail Design comes from my love of the sea and being out on the water. We are lucky in Rhode Island that we are surrounded by such an amazing coastline!
3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I have loved creating art from a young age. When I was younger, my parents hired a private art tutor because they knew how much I loved art and being creative. When I went to college at Roger Williams University for Communications, I loved art/graphic design so much I switched my major my first year. I have worked in the field of graphic design since then and love that I get to be so creative!
4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I have always loved anything that has a nautical theme due to my love of the sea. Where we live, in Bristol, we have a deeply-rooted boating community. We spend a lot of time out on Narraganset Bay and this inspires me to design the types of prints and invitations I create.
5. What’s your favorite item to create?
I love creating nautical art for the home as well as invitations for all sorts of occasions that have a sea-inspired theme.
6. What’s your best seller?
My nautical flag prints! People love that they can be creative with what they want on their flags. I can personalize with almost anything they want from a saying, to a name, and/or location.
7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
Since 1995 when I came to school here. I met my husband here and I loved being close to the water, so we decided to settle here.
8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
I love that Rhode Island is such a small state and you can be in the city or by the ocean in about 20 minutes from where I live!
9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
I love taking friends/family to the beaches in Middletown and Little Compton, RI. Being in Bristol, we also spend a lot of time downtown walking near the water and going out to great restaurants.
10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
Stay creative! When you start something new, it always takes awhile to get going. Believe in yourself—you can do it!
