1. Tell us about your work
I primarily design and create steampunk hats and accessories, however I have done work that runs the gamut from weddings to holidays.

I call it "~ Steampunk Fashion ~ Where you can creatively combine the sensibilities of Victorian style with your all-out rebellious attitude ~"

2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
I was born, raised and live in New England. We use the expression 'Wicked' as a superlative. Add to that a New Englander would say 'hawt' not 'hot' and you have Wicked Hawt Studio.

3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I've enjoyed drawing, painting, sewing and design most of my life. For the past few years, I have done creative costuming, mostly in the Steampunk genre, including making my own hats. Recently, my friends have encouraged me to share those designs and creations, thus my Studio was born.

4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
Steampunk is a genre. There is a look to it... I love the drape of the clothing and the creativity of the design. I keep an inventory of supplies so that when something hits me, I can put my thoughts to work right away.

I also do custom orders and work with clients to bring their vision to life. Sometimes it is pictures they send me with ideas and we go from there, but there is always a conversation about colors, style, materials etc. From there, they let the artist (me) have creative reins after those discussions.

5. What’s your favorite item to create?
Oh I just love doing hats. All kinds of hats. Feathers and flowers, leather and brass gears. I love it all.

6. What’s your best seller?
Every item is a one of a kind. I may do something similar, but no two pieces are ever the same. Men's hats right now are good sellers.

7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
Since 1985. I lived in MA prior to that.

8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
The people and the food. We have a fabulous spirit in this state and it seems we express it through our food!

9. Favorite place to take out-of-towners?
The Hill

10. Any advice for new/wannabe makers?
If you have a dream, make it happen. Find a way...you can do it.

11. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
I've known I{Heart}Rhody for a few years now, we met through social media and ran several social events together. Her photography inspires and really shows off the beauty and quirkiness of our beautiful state.
