Styleweek SEED fashion show
Although I personally am a fashion schlub, I love and appreciate the artistry of fashion. I marvel at people who manage to look "put-together," let alone those who literally create clothes.
It was fun and exciting to see the newest crop of upcoming fashion designers at the opening night of Style Week Northeast. Their student design competition, "Seed, the parent organization of STYLEWEEK works directly with universities and colleges to identify the most driven talent to partake in this competition. These students then come together for one show where they are judged by an industry panel of fashion and press professionals."
Bear and I went to the very first Seed competition show in 2012, when the theme was recycling. I still remember my favorite piece from that show, by Kwong Hui Yee.
Below are my favorite looks from the Seed fashion show for each designer.
I had to leave immediately afterward, and was away all weekend for a funeral, so I missed the rest of the designers, but Style Week was kind enough so share them all,* so I picked a few of my faves from those shows, too.
Going alphabetically, first up this year was Cotey Bertone, a Providence native. This was my favorite look of his, and I have to say, this was the best pairing of model (Dita Starks) and design in the whole show.
Next was Gabriella Delfino, from NYC. She took home the prize with her ready-to-wear, shimmery neutrals.
New Yorker Voni (Veronica Lee) considers herself more of a sculptor/artist than fashion designer. Her look was heavy on pink and red.
Yvonne Attie is a student at MassArt. Hers were some of my favorites of the evening. They leaned heavily on Holly Golightly, with an edgy update.
RISD freshman Zoe Ilana Grinfeld was rockin' Robin Hood with some fawn and forest frocks.
