1. Tell us about your work:
My work is 3-dimensional, mixed media. I hand collect Sea Glass from all over the Rhode Island shoreline at all of my “secret” spots. I paint sometimes with acrylic and sometimes with watercolor on 16x20, 9x12, and 5x7 canvasses. I then adhere my Sea Glass in all of its glorious state (I have never tumbled one piece!) to create one of a kind Sea Glass Mermaids. Each piece has its very own saying on the back of the canvas conveying my thought for that particular Mermaid.
2. Is there a story behind the name of your business?
All of my Sea Glass is from Rhode Island and my maiden name is Fish so I am the “RI Mermaid!”
3. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter/designer?
I believe I have quite a few angels around me that have guided me into doing something I really love and I have a great husband that encourages me always. I’m very lucky!
4. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I’ve always been a Mermaid lover! When I started to Sea Glass, all I could see on the shoreline were pieces of Mermaids and they needed to be put back together!
5. What’s your favorite item to create?
I love to take customers very own hand collected Sea Glass and make it into their very own Mermaid or Merman.
6. What’s your best seller?
My 5 x 7’s fly off the table when I’m doing shows!
7. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I am a proud native Rhode Islander of 51 years!
8. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island? I love our beaches and that they are so easy to get to! Every time I come home (I live in Warwick) from Newport and cross the Newport Bridge and then the Jamestown Bridge, I still get goosebumps; it’s so beautiful!
9. Any advice for new/wannabe makers? Make sure you get a white tent and good weights to hold it down!
