Sights ~ The Burnside Statue ~ Providence
"How do you like me now?"
Regular visitors to Burnside Park downcity may have noticed a change in the eponymous statue.
Here's how General Burnside looked up until a week or so ago:
And here's how he looks today.
The restoration of the statue apparently also includes replacing some elements of the statue that have disappeared in its 128-year history: a canteen, a scabbard, etc. The work is being done by Natick sculptor and restorer Jeffrey Buccacio, Jr.
Just for fun, here's a photo from the Providence Journal of the partial restoration. You can see the difference quite clearly.
