Exhibit ~ Hurricane of 1938 ~ Providence
Providence Public Library
150 Empire St.
Providence, Rhode Island
June - August 31, 2013
From the Providence Public Library's site:
Hurricane season on the east coast started on June 1st. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) is predicting an active year, but Rhode Islanders have weathered the storms before. We've been meaning to check out the restoration in the old section of the library, and this provides even more motivation.
In acknowledgement of some of Rhode Island's worst hurricanes in memory, the Special Collections and Rhode Island Collection are exhibiting items that showcase the power of these hurricanes and the fortitude of Rhode Islanders who lived through them. In particular, we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Hurricane of '38 - particularly devastating storm.
