Dining ~ Figidini ~ Providence

Figidini Wood Fired Eatery

Tucked into the growing food hub that is the Biltmore garage is a new wood fire eatery that blends traditional Mediterranean cookery with modern sensibility and contemporary decor.

We started out with an appetizer of roasted figs in pancetta with local honey. Neither of us had had figs outside of a Newton before. These were wonderful. Bear went on and on about it, and even convinced me to buy figs so he could try to cook some himself.

My entree was lamb with cucumber and local yogurt. It was cooked to a perfect medium, and strongly seasoned with a mix that included a slight bite of pepper, easily cooled by the yogurt and cucumber. Bear and I were both sad when the plate was empty. He talked about that lamb for days.

Bear's main course was sweet sausage with pickled beets and spring onions. The beets were spicy hot with a sharp bite of brine. Very tasty. The sausages were just okay, being mildly flavored and no match for the pickles. It might be worthwhile to try the spicy sausage.

We also ordered a Margherita pizza to take home for dinner. It was a delightful savory pizza with fresh ingredients, in the traditional Neapolitan style. In fact, the restaurant expects to receive their VPN certification (a legally documented seal of approval from a group of Neapolitan pizza masters, based on the use of authentic Neapolitan pizza ingredients and preparation) for their Margherita and Marinara pizza soon.

I expect we'll be back for more pizza (and lamb and figs!) in the future.

  3. I've been here three times already since they opened! They have delicious food! And they're really eco-friendly too. I love that they take your order with an iPod Touch which communicates with an iPad for checkout. Makes things so easy. Also, next time you go, try the Sweet Potato pizza - I don't even like goat cheese, but this pizza is delicious!
