Dining ~ Kennedy's Fried Chicken ~ Providence

Riding the bus means having the opportunity to visit parts of the city I might ordinarily drive through or bypass on the highway. A bus rider's life is a life of surface roads and neighborhoods.

And so it is that I've been visiting a number of businesses in Olneyville lately. Kennedy's Fried Chicken is exactly what you'd expect of a neighborhood takeout chicken place: a simple storefront where the signage hasn't changed in years. In fact, the current owner isn't named Kennedy, and they no longer serve biscuits.
The inside is clean, and empty that early in the day.

The owner told me that the chicken is made fresh in the store, and the recipe is his own. I tried an order, along with mashed potatoes and gravy. There's a standing rule at Casa Boliyou: if there are mashed potatoes on the menu, Bear gets mashed potatoes. I'm not sure who made that rule, but we've been following it for a couple of years now.
The meal withstood the 20 minute bus ride home, still hot. Bear turned up her nose at the chicken, but disappeared into her room with the mashed potatoes and a greedy cackle.
I found the chicken to be good. It was pretty juicy inside, crisp outside, without a thick and oily coating. There was a slight spicy heat to the outside that was pleasant without being overpowering.
Bear was disappointed with the mashed potatoes, but couldn't identify a problem other than that she didn't like them and they "weren't good." I get the feeling that some of the prepared foods there may be bulk purchased.
So, the fried chicken was good - not worth leaving your own neighborhood for, but definitely worth a try if you happen to be in Olneyville. Sides... pass. Service was quick and friendly, food is cheap and the place looked clean.
