1. Tell us about your work
I create illustrations and handmade items using a combination of paint, pencil, fabric and stitches.

2. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter?
Well, that's a long story! It's been my passion since I was in kindergarten and I've been working at it ever since. I went to RISD and learned so much during that time. I participated in a lot of the student sales and opened my etsy shop in 2005 when I was a sophomore.

3. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I'm inspired by lots of random things and devote time daily to seeking fresh inspiration, but more specifically I'm inspired by vintage textiles, old photographs, faded antique colors, and handcrafting.

4. What’s your favorite item to make?
Well, I love the challenge of figuring out how to make my next new idea, so my favorite item is whatever is next on the horizon. But truly, I love them all.

5. What’s your best seller?
It changes, but lately my Scenic Route print and Messenger Bird pillow cover have been popular.

6. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
I came to Providence in 2004 to go to RISD and loved it so much that I stayed, so now it's been 8 years.

7. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
It's pocket-sized! Definitely the cutest state in the country. I love being able to get from the city to the beach to my friends' farm and nothing is more than an hour away. I also have met the most amazing people here in RI, and am super thankful for my community here.

8. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
I just finished a new series of large-scale mixed media paintings for my first ever solo gallery show- I've been slowly getting them posted on my blog but you can see all the images here: www.flickr.com/photos/allicoate/sets/72157629282612888/
