1. Tell us about your work
Art has always been something I have enjoyed. I am in awe of the beauty this world has to offer and I have found later in life that painting is an excellent way to connect with it. I like to think of my artwork as a reflection of my emotions and visual perceptions. I like to test new styles and mix up my approach to painting. Some days I go to the canvas with a delicate brush and another day I will equip myself with a pallet knife and slash the canvas with vigorous strokes. Some of my paintings are planned out ahead of time and others are done in a moment of passion.
2. How did you come to be a professional artist/crafter?
To put it simply, my development into an artist came from some paint, an imagination, and the will to make it happen! It has been a fun and magical journey so far, however; I learn something new from every painting and am forever learning in my field. Currently, I am a student of art education at Rhode Island College, with my ultimate goal to teach art to the next generation.
3. Where do you draw your inspiration?
I grew up in the small town of Cumberland, Rhode Island and can remember as a child, looking at Providence as a place of mystery and excitement. I now live in Providence and still get that same feeling when I walk the streets. The skyline of Providence is an inspiration I have turned to often and hope to delve deeper into the inner workings of the city.
4. What’s your favorite item to make?
I greatly enjoy painting in acrylic and oil. I often find myself painting landscapes, still life, and abstract images. I stray from literal representation and like to play with color and add my own interpretation to an image.
5. What’s your best seller?
My current best seller is the blue Providence Skyline pallet knife painting.
6. How long have you been in Rhode Island?
25 years, born and raised!
7. What do you {heart} about Rhode Island?
I heart being outdoors and the variety of activities Rhode Island has to offer. I grew up near a wooded area and love walking the trails. I heart the smell of autumn leaves, the first days of spring when the flowers are blooming, and Dells lemonade on a hot summer day.
8. Please include anything else you’d like to add:
Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself! I hope you will check back on my progress one day and maybe find something you enjoy. I like to think of myself as an everyday Rhode Islander that happened to find a love for art. Art has a magical power to connect us without words and even if my art only makes you smile or have a moment of contemplation, my task is complete. Have a great day!
