Events ~ Dramatic Reading of "A Christmas Carol" ~ Newport Public Library
Newport Public Library
300 Spring Street
Newport, Rhode Island
Last night I attended a dramatic reading of A Christmas Carol by Robb Dimmick, award-winning actor, book dealer and historian. Dimmick's bona fides in theater, musical theater, education and literary conservatorship are impressive. So was his performance.
Dimmick switched characters faster than you can change hats as he related an entertaining version of the story. There was laughter, and applause, and I honestly think I heard some sniffling at the end.
He is also a genuinely nice man, who spoke passionately about the importance of reading aloud to adults as well as children. He was so appreciative of the feedback he received, and was kind enough to have his picture taken with Flat Stanley for my nephew. What a great way to start off the holiday season!

Below is the Providence Athenaeum's upload of a clip from Dimmick's performance in 2008.
