Sights ~ 755 Westminster Street ~ Providence

updated April 2019
755 Westminster Street
Providence, Rhode Island

This is the Lilly Building, built in 1899. Formerly a furniture store, and possibly before that a jewelry store, 755 Westminster was renovated in 2002 and now has an updated snazzy Art Deco facade.

I haven't been able to find out much about its history, except that it was previously a Herman's fine furniture store (you can still see the outline of the old signage behind the 755 on the facade). It now houses storefront space and 12 condos above. It's included in the application of the Westminster Street Historic District to the NRHP.

This is a photo from from the application of 2002.

The Armory Revival Company has some photos of the living space, and says the adaptive re-use was done by Durkee Brown Viveiros and Werenfels.  It won an Adaptive Re-Use Award from the Providence Preservation Society in 2004.

One of those condos is for sale and if I'm reading it right, is 1 bedroom, 2 baths and a $489,000 asking price.

I wish I had more information about the businesses that have been here. Currently there are an Edible Arrangements, a tattoo parlor, and Youth Pride RI.
